Cute and Modest Tween Girl Costumes

Annie Oakley Costume

Cute Tween Girl Costumes

Being from Texas, my daughter's go-to-costume for Halloween was usually a cowgirl outfit.

This Annie Oakley costume would be one she would like.

These days, if she was still a tween, she would rather be a pirate wench.

One of her all time favorite actors is Johnny Depp, and his portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow was one she really enjoyed.

Finding a Modest Halloween Costume is Almost Impossible

One issue that many parents and grandparents seem to have with store bought Halloween outfits for tween girls is the length of the skirt. There are several things you can do to help lengthen the skirt. First, you can make a longer, elastic waist skirt that matches the original skirt. It can be worn under the costume skirt like a petticoat, or over it. Second, you can add a full, net petticoat and leggings. Third, you can add a pair of biker shorts. Sewing a row of 3" to 4" lace around the bottom of the skirt will also work.

If you can't find one that has a skirt that is appropriate, you can always make a costume using a McCall's or Simplicity tween costume sewing pattern.

Finding the right tween girl costume can be exhausting if you go to the mall. Finding the right size to fit your tween girl is also a hassle. Instead, this year, consider online shopping for your family's Halloween costumes. You will have a much, much broader selection, and most of the time shipping will be free!

Fun for Halloween and for Pirate's Parties!

High Seas Pirate Costume
My daughter would love the California Costumes Toys High Seas Pirate. The costume dress is made of polyester. Some parents who purchased this costume mentioned that they also bought a petticoat to go under it, because it is a little short for their comfort. With accessories such as a pirate hat, belt with purse, glovelettes, and printed leggings, all you need to still get is the pink pirate sword!

The costume at right is sure to please with its cute pirate look, though you might want to add a longer petticoat (the petticoat does not come with it). This adorable costume comes with the hat, leggings, belt purse, but you will need to purchase the petticoat and boots or shoes separately. Or you could add a full black skirt beneath to add the length needed for modesty.

Do you plan to make changes to your daughter's costume?
