Spicy Avocado Dip

There are so many good recipes for a Mexican theme dinner. One that most people enjoy is avocado dip, also known as guacamole dip.

Below, I am posting my mother-in-laws' Avocado Dip recipe. The family enjoys it, and so do others it has been served to. The recipe is best made with a Mexican granite molcajete, but if you don't have one, you can always use a bowl and a fork, or even a small food processor.

Serve with tortilla chips if used as a dip. If used as a side dish, serve with a full meal.

Mexican Molcajete

Avocado Dip Recipe

Perfect for nachos or tortilla chips!

  • 2 avocados, peeled and pitted
  • 1/2 cup onion, minced
  • 1/2 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped fine
  • 1 small tomato, peeled and diced
  • 1 tbsp. lime or lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup sour cream

Mash the avocado in a Mexican Molcajete. Add onion, jalapeno, tomato, lime and salt to the avocado and mix well. Stir in the sour cream.

While the lemon or lime juice will help prevent the avocado turning brown, this recipe is best prepared just before use. If more salt is desired, add it a little at a time, tasting between each addition.

Chili powder or Tabasco sauce can be added, if desired.

Do you make your own avocado or guacamole dip?
